It is better to read a book than watch its screen version (Сочинение ЕГЭ)
Literature has always played a significant role in people’s life. Some still believe that reading books is better than watching their film adaptations, whereas others do not share this opinion.
As for me, I support the above statement. To begin with, when reading a work of fiction, we gain a deeper understanding of the author’s message in comparison with watching a screen version that offers the director’s subjective interpretation and often lacks many details. In addition, unlike watching videos that seems to be a passive activity, reading develops our imagination and makes us think: we can picture the characters’ appearance, speech and actions in our mind.
However, there are people who think differently. Firstly, they are sure that the special and visual effects, music and costumes used by the filmmakers can convey the main idea of the original work more completely. Secondly, a film version saves time because it takes approximately two hours to watch it, while reading a book takes a few days.
I cannot agree with the opponents’ position. Filmmaking is a kind of art that pursues a different goal. The expressive means the director employs are meant to tell a story visually in a limited time at the expense of the author’s original plot and unique style, which eventually prevents us from having a profound insight into the source material.
In conclusion, I would like to say that it is more useful and interesting to read a book despite some advantages watching its screen version may have.
